Residents were very supportive of the plan to demolish the former Lemon-Monroe High School and transform it into 29-acres of greenspace and multi-sports fields during an information session Wednesday night.
About 50 people attended the 45-minute meeting at Monroe Jr./Sr. High School about the upcoming demolition of the former Lemon-Monroe High School.
Those who attended the information session asked questions about certain items that remain in the old building as well as wanting them to be salvaged.
George Long, district business manager, gave an overview of the demolition process and explained that some requests, such as touring the building, obtaining a locker or other mementos from the building can’t be honored.
Long said the asbestos remediation, salvaging and demolition of the old school building starts on March 31 and is expected to be completed July 31. He said that he has already met with or delivered information flyers to about 60 homes around the demolition site.
